In November 2017 Microsoft retired Microsoft Word Viewer, the free application from Microsoft that allowed users to open Microsoft Word Documents in a view-only mode. Microsoft retired the rest of the office suite in April 2018, including Microsoft Excel Viewer, Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer. Microsoft recommends that customers switch to their free mobile app, their free online web viewers, or upgrade to Office 365. The mobile and apps are non-starters; available only on limited platforms and carrying significant retraining and support costs. Read more...

Recently we were given the privilege to provide technical support to the NVIDIA deep learning research teams. NVIDIA provided supercomputers (DGX-2) for two months, during which time our technical team helped propel forward technology development used to parallelize very large LSTM neural networks.

In his 1798 book “An Essay on the Principle of Population,” Thomas Malthus predicted that population growth would outpace our food supply leading to food insecurity and even starvation for many. While he couldn’t have known the impact that technology would ultimately have on agriculture and our global food supply, he was correct in assuming that there would be daunting challenges to sustainably feeding a growing planet.
